Name: Sakura Matou

Personality: Sakura is a classic example of a Yamato Nadeshiko. She's soft-spoken, gentle, and extremely kind, and this somewhat elegant air reflects in many of the things she does; when Shirou's not taking charge, she's the one that cooks for the various members of the Emiya household, and takes up archery as her club activity. She rarely raises her voice or gets angry (not counting her breakdown during her route, of course) and in general is a Very Nice Girl.

She has a bit of a dual personality, though it's not as extreme as some cases; how she is at school, and how she is at the Emiya house. At school she's more or less what she really is; a quiet, withdrawn girl who rarely smiles around others. It's not so much an attempt to keep people away as it is a clear view of her shrinking violet tendencies, a result of having most of the confidence beaten out of her. But when she's around Shirou (and later Taiga, Saber, Rin, and Ilya), she has a much brighter, sunnier personality. In the scenes taking place in the Emiya house, she's rarely seen without a smile on her face (unless a Serious Business topic comes up), and will not shy away from the antics that might happen.

This... isn't a total act. Eleven years of abuse and neglect have left Sakura a very, very broken girl inside. She is also aware just how broken she is inside, and hides it purely because she doesn't want to worry those who have come to truly care about her. This depression nearly crippled her at one point in her life, to the point where she had contemplated suicide at one point. The one that saved her from these thoughts was Shirou, and that's why she's so dedicated to (and in love with) him.

This isn't to say that she's a completely innocent girl. Deep in her heart, she holds a lot of resentment for the world and those who have hurt her. With a mixture of despair and manipulation at the hands of her grandfather, Sakura's mind is broken and taken over by a darker, more sadistic personality. This personality reveals how Sakura always had contempt for Rin - her older sister - because she did nothing when Sakura was given away to the Matou, and her father for abandoning her in the first place. She viciously kills her adopted brother Shinji without remorse, and takes great pleasure in destroying her grandfather as well. With the help of Rin and Shirou, though, she breaks free of this side of her. She feels great remorse for her thoughts and actions while she was "Dark Sakura", but has since moved on and left that side of her behind.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ She's an excellent cook!
+ She's good at archery as well, having taken up the title of club captain some time after her route ends.
+ At this point in her life, she's a bit more outgoing, and is starting to shed her timid skin
+ Mentally, she's a surprisingly strong person. She deals with abuse of various levels from her brother and grandfather for eleven years, and it's only through much manipulation and bad moves by the protagonists that she finally breaks.

+/- Despite what she did as Dark Sakura, she loses the will to fight when it comes to opposing her friends. This is how she lost her Servant, Rider, to her brother; when she found out she would have to fight Rin and Shirou, she became reluctant to participate.

- Sakura makes a pretty good attempt at hiding all her pain from even her closest friends. If she thinks something will be a burden to them, she will keep it to herself.
- Tied into that is how hard she pushes herself to make it seem like she's okay. For example; even when she was feverish, she still attempted to go about her daily duties, and was only stopped when Shirou put his foot down.
- Though she's getting better, she's still a bit of a doormat. She didn't fight back at all against the abuse she suffered.
- The root of all this is the scars from her extremely abusive childhood. While she has been getting better in some areas, it's unlikely that these scars will ever go away, and it's uncertain how else they might manifest.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The video clicks on, revealing a curious-looking purple-haired girl. She has the normal confused air about her that most newbies had, but she doesn't seem to be outright panicking.]

Um, hello... if there's anyone listening, I have a few questions I'd like to ask. [A pause. She hopes that would be enough to get someone's attention.] I'm not sure how I got here... I heard an explanation before, but I'm still a little confused, so if someone could help me out, that would be great. [She looks a little sheepish at that.] I'm sorry if a lot of people are asking this. And thank you in advance. I really do appreciate all your help.

[She moves to turn off the feed, but pauses.] There are... a lot of people from other worlds here, aren't there? [Her smile fades a little.] Can someone tell me... do the names 'Shirou Emiya', 'Rin Tohsaka', or 'Rider' sound familiar?

Third Person Sample: When she had seen the cherry blossom trees on her way through Violet city, Sakura had made a mental note of the city. It was nice; it didn't have the same old feel to it as Ecruteak City, but there was a certain air to it that soothed Sakura. It was a place where someone could relax, away from their ongoing journey down whatever road they've chosen to take.

So when the snow began to melt, when the new flowers began poking through the soil and pokemon woke up from hibernation, she made the several day trek from the Breeding Center back to Violet City. The sight didn't disappoint her; the trees all throughout the city were covered in pink blossoms, and their fragrance drifted past her with each light gust of wind. With almost a bounce to her step, the girl headed towards the Sprout Tower. It was the tallest building in the city, so going up there would provide an excellent view. And boy, was she right. A sea of pink, branches lightly swaying in the breeze like the ocean's waves, was laid out below her. With a small sigh, she leaned against the railing, soaking in the view.

This sort of view... it would always be special to her. It reminded her of the promise Shirou had made her, in the dark days of the Holy Grail War, right before she had hit rock bottom. To view the cherry blossoms together, when spring rolled around... the promise - the chance to spend time with her beloved - had kept her going, had given her something to cling to for just a little while longer. And now, when that time was nothing but a memory, it still gave her a warm feeling in her chest that she never wanted to go away.

She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she jumped at the sudden movement on her shoulder. Her Ralts, tiny thing that she was, had been clinging to the back of her shirt the whole time, almost hidden by her hair. But the feeling of the sun and the wind - as well as the wave of Sakura's emotions - had roused the little creature's curiosity, and she had pulled herself up to get a better look. Her face, as obscured as it was, held a slight look of awe at the sight, and Sakura couldn't help but laugh.

"It's pretty, isn't it?" She asked, and the pokemon made a small noise of agreement, settling her head down on her trainer's shoulder. They were going to be here for a while, so better get comfortable.
